Let me start off by saying that using WordPress as your website’s content management system would be a great place to start! If you don’t have the energy to convert you site to WordPress then at least do the following 3 FREE things to improve your website’s visibility and SEO:
- Submit your website to DMOZ: Make sure your website is listed in this directory. All the major search engines use this directory, including Google, Yahoo, and AOL. It takes up to 2 weeks for your site to be approved and listed.
- Create a Google Local listing: If your business has a physical address, then you absolutely need to be listed in Google Local. This allows your business to show up in Google Maps, on Google searches, and very importantly on Google Maps on smart phones, like iPhone. Over 50% of searches for local businesses now start on a smart phone! It takes a few minutes to set up and a couple of weeks to activate, but will greatly improve your visibility on the web. Don’t forget Yahoo! local and Bing local.
- Title of your website: Make sure the title of your website contains between 10 and 70 characters and contains your most important keywords. For instance, the ClickHOST.com title is: Web hosting and Domain names.
