ClickHOST is now a CloudFlare Certified Partner and offers the basic free CloudFlare service to all customers!
The CloudFlare content delivery network takes advantage of recent changes to hardware, server technology and network routing to deliver an easy-to-set-up, affordable and high-performance CDN that reduces hops and lowers latency for visitors to your website. CloudFlare’s popularity is undisputed as they claim over 25% of the Internet’s population regularly passes through their network.
CloudFlare essentially does two things for ClickHOST customers:
- Makes your website more secure
- Makes your website faster
Once you activate CloudFlare in your ClickHOST account, your website becomes even more secure from a variety of online threats that plague website owners:
- cross site scripting
- SQL injections
- comment spamming
- abnormal bot crawling
- email harvesting
Unless you’re a particularly vigilant anti-spam warrior or the geek type who periodically peers into your server logs, you may not even be aware that malicious probes and attacks are taking place. That is, until it’s too late. Whether you’re running WordPress or some other content management system or even a site built with static pages, you’ll find that CloudFlare will prevent many of these from ever occurring in the first place. How do you know? CloudFlare shows you stats on how many attempts have been thwarted along with your bandwidth savings (sign up required, but free).
On the speed side, CloudFlare potentially loads websites “twice as fast.” When traffic passes through the data centers, the static portions are intelligently cached on CloudFlare servers. This has proven to yield substantial performance gains as it conserves bandwidth, decreases server load, and runs web applications faster. CloudFlare customers see an average 60% decrease in bandwidth usage.
How do I Enable CloudFlare?
We encourage you to turn on CloudFlare and test it for yourself. CloudFlare is integrated into the ClickHOST control panel. You can choose to turn on CloudFlare yourself or ask ClickHOST to do it for you. There are no strings attached and turning CloudFlare on and off takes two clicks. The only exception is that the free CloudFare service only works for sites that don’t use SSL certificates (SSL sites need a special Cloudflare account).
1. To get started, log into your ClickHOST control panel and look for the CloudFlare icon:
2. After clicking on the CloudFlare icon you will see this, indicating your website and the CloudFlare off status. To activate, click the cloud under “CloudFlare Status” and wait for a moment:
3. The cloud image appears more colorful indicating ClaudFlare is turned on:
4. Select which subdomains you want to activate CloudFlare on (normally www.yourdomain.com)
5. If you set up a free account through CloudFlare, you can view analytics reporting for CloudFlare:
